Our thing lately has been to sneak down to the forgotten stretches of beach here in Southern California and camp out. It's the shoulder season, so the weather is warm, but the beaches aren't patrolled much, so it's easy to hide a tent, light up a bonfire, and throw back some drinks. This video was after a wild night of surfing at 1am under the full moon with our friend Mondo Marcus for his birthday. The whole time we were saying to each other, "Seriously! Why doesn't anyone else do this kind of thing? This is awesome!" We may have been the only people on the whole stretch of California coast surfing that night at 1am. The next day I got a text from a buddy of mine who sent me a picture of his tent....it turns out he was camped out just a few miles north of us---inspired by our stories of sneaking down to the beach. Love it! It's sometimes hard to tell in the video, but this is a live video, filmed at our beachfront "living room." A section of the bamboo forest behind us has ! fallen over on itself and has formed a tunnel. The tunnel leads to a small open space in the bamboo where we set up our tent. It's a killer spot. Waking up to a glassy ocean, dolphins strolling by, leftover burritos for breakfast, the sunrise at our backs...everyone says they want to join us....but when the moment of truth rolls around it's always the same true friends around that good ol' bonfire. check out our music here: www.wheelandbrothers.com
